Cora King Shackelford

Mrs. Cora King Shackelford age 96, of 2108 Riverside Drive, Mt. Airy, NC widow of Mr. John Jackson Shackelford passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Northern Hospital of Surry. She was born September 13, 1911 in Patrick County, VA to the late Anthony and Annie Ellen Bowman King. She was retired from Baldwin's. Mrs. Shackelford was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty and Thomas Brown, Pilot Mountain, NC and JoAnne Shelton, Winston-Salem, NC, a son and daughter-in-law, John Jackson and June Shackelford, Mt. Airy, NC, eight grandchildren, Peggy Best, Judy Flake, Sandra Patterson, Karen Glass, Debonne Boger, Randy Shelton, Steve Shelton and John Glass, 2 "special step grandchildren and spouse", Bill and Mary Belton and James Belton all of Mt. Airy, twelve great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Shackelford was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Glass, a sister, Martha Greenwood and a brother, Mahlon Christian. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mt. Airy conducted by Pastor Stephen McCreary. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home and at other times at the Shackelford homeplace.
