Cubert N. Handy, 84 of Woolwine, Virginia passed away October 2, 2018, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina. He was born March 7, 1934, to the late Reynolds William Handy and Matrice Cockram Handy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kelvin Handy and his sister, Alma Handy Morris.
Cubert was married for 65 years to his lifelong love and companion, Erlene Hubbard Handy. He graduated from Va. Tech in Dairy Science in 1956. He worked for 20 years with Germantown Manufacturing Company in the development and sales of dairy stabilizers. Upon his retirement there, Cubert worked alongside his father as owner and operator of Handy’s Orchards in Woolwine, Va.
As an avid VT fan, Cubert enjoyed Hokies sports as he attended Hokie football games every season for over 50 years with his family and friends.
Cubert and Erlene spent many years enjoying their shared love of golf, adventure, and travel throughout the country; the last twenty-four years they enjoyed their winters together at their home in Florida. Through their journey together, they made many close friends across the country whom they cherish, as well as, dear friends here at home.
Cubert and Erlene have two daughters, Brenda Handy Hopkins (Stan) and Carolyn Handy Bell (Tim). They have three grandchildren, John Hopkins Jr. (Merrill), Kelli Bell Sanchez (Robert) and Kory Bell (Ann). They have 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Woolwine United Methodist Church on Friday, October 5, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Mary Sue Terry officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Woolwine Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Moody’s Funeral Home, Stuart, Va. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com
