Curtis Alton Gentry, Sr



Mr. Curtis Alton Gentry, Sr., 73, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Gentry was born February 20, 1937, to the late Pholia McMickle and Pearl Mae Smith Gentry. He retired from the United States Navy, serving from 1956 until 1985. Mr. Gentry was a lifetime member of the Mount Airy VFW Post 2019 and the Disabled Veterans. He was a devoted member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Mr. Gentry is survived by his wife, Betty Johnson Gentry of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Marguerite and Victor Romero and Vanessa and Dale Kitts, all of San Diego, CA, Susan and William Richardson and Sandra and Charlie Brown, all of Mount Airy; sons, Curtis Gentry, Jr. of Gibsonville, Kelvin Gentry of San Diego, CA, Steven and Susie Worrell of Mount Airy, Johnny Worrell of the home, and Mark and April Worrell of Mount Airy; granddaughter and spouses, Rebecca Kitts, Crystal and Chris Tetterton, Paul and Jessica Brown, Jenny Brown, Sarah and Taylor Bradley, Samantha and Andy Utt, Jonathan Brown, Adam Richardson, Alicia Smith, Pfc. Lance Richardson(Iraq), Garrett Richardson, Billie and Robert Campbell, Tracey Worrell, Amber Worrell, Emily Worrell, Brett Worrell, Austin Brintle, and Becky Brintle; great-grandchildren, Noettic and Noble Mattox, Christian and Caleb Tetterton, Maylee Smith, Ella Brintle and Jackson Utt; and a sister and brother-in-law, Millie and Jerry August of Winston-Salem. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Gentry. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, by the Rev. David "Buster" Sechrist. Full military rites will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
