Curtis Lee Mills, 83, affectionately known as Papa by his many grandchildren, went
home to Jesus on April 29th, 2022, surrounded by his family in Grand Blanc, Michigan. He was
born on December 27th, 1938, in Chatham County, North Carolina, the son of Fred Vernon Mills
and Nellie Ada (Simmons) Mills.
Curtis graduated from Westfield High School. Following graduation, he worked for
General Motors in Flint, Michigan where he raised his family and would later retire from. He
was a man of entrepreneurship, hard work, and providing for his family.
In his retirement he spent his summers in his cabin up north enjoying the view from the
dock, riding his bike, going on walks, and enjoying many TV programs with his family.
In life Curtis raised his children to love hard and be kind, he brought joy and laughter to
the many lives he touched. He was known for his collection of treasures, his creativity in
painting and decor, and skill for finding a use for everything. He was a proud father,
grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Adele, Clay, Gloria, and Paul. He is
survived by his siblings Allen, Betty, Faye, and Gary; and also, by his children; Caroline Mills
Merz, her husband Gene, and her children Alex, Rachel, and Amanda; Tracy Mills Motes, her
husband Kyle, and her children Shadoe, Winston, Avery, and Madeline; and Rodney Mills, and
his wife Danielle, and his children, Killian, Laura, Grey, and Jude.
There will be a graveside service on Saturday, May 7th, 2022, at 2:00 PM, at Indian Grove
Family Cemetery (Indian Grove Church Road, Mount Airy, North Carolina, 27030) immediately
followed by a celebration of life at his home in North Carolina. Condolences and flowers can be
sent to Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, NC.
