Cynthia Glynn Martin Griffith, 75, of Stuart passed away peacefully on June 18, 2022, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection surrounded by family.

Cindy was born in Jacksonville, NC on July 16, 1946, to the late Walter Glenn Martin and Nettie Russell Martin and lived the first years of her life in Swansboro before moving to Stuart. She was a graduate of Stuart High School, received her Associates degree in medical secretarial science from Averett College and later graduated with a 4.0 GPA to receive a BS in health sciences with minors in counseling and management from Old Dominion University. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Martin Church and a son, Talley Andress Griffith.

Cindy began working at age 14, running the cash register in the local grocery store and continued her strong work ethic for the rest of her life. She was a medical secretary for local surgeon, Dr. John Kastretsios, served as administrative assistant for designer Milo Baughman, and discovered her greatest passion at the former Bull Mtn. Bugle newspaper where she was managing editor and best remembered for her weekly life-musing column, Living: It Beats the Alternative.  She was a contributing writer and continued her column for The Enterprise newspaper for several years.  Cindy served as the Site Facilitator for the Patrick Henry Community College, Patrick County location, where she retired from several years ago.

She was an active member and leader at Stuart Methodist Church, an Emmaus community member and leader,  a former Hospice Volunteer and advisory board member as well as instructor for hospice classes, member of Stuart Rotary Club, and served in numerous other civic groups and as a board member of several organizations.  Until recent years due to health, she took great pleasure in working with the community she loved.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bruce Griffith, of the home, a daughter and son-in-law, Kara and Bruce Ward of High Point, NC, six grandchildren Emily Santiago, Kaleigh Griffith, Mason Ward, Connor Ward, Ian Ward, and Kaitlin Ward, two great-grandsons Liam and Gabriel Santiago, and other beloved family members.

Funeral services will be held at Stuart Methodist Church at 1:00pm on Tuesday, June 21, with Rev Tim Hunt and Rev Tommy Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in Woolwine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mason Ward, Connor Ward, Bud Griffith, Adam Martin, Linwood Martin, Larry Cockram, Sonny Swails, and Larry Belcher. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Williams and Jim Keesee. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stuart United Methodist Church Elevator Fund, PO Box 946, Stuart, VA 24171, or Woolwine United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 10205 Woolwine Highway, Woolwine, VA 24185
