Dallon Douglas Smith

Mr. Dallon Douglas “Doug” Smith, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 8, 2018.  He was born April 4, 1946, in Surry County, the son of the late George Thomas and Evie Jane Culler Smith.  Doug proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He retired as a project manager after many years of service in the construction industry.  He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Potts Smith of the home; a daughter, Amanda Smith of Charlotte; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Angie Smith of Dobson and George Smith and Jennifer Denton of Lowgap; a stepdaughter and her husband, Jennifer and Michael King of Mount Airy; two stepsons and their wives, Allen and Karissa Edwards of Kentucky and Jamie and Michelle Edwards of Pinnacle; six grandchildren, Olivia Smith and Grant Smith, both of Dobson, Dorian Smith of Lowgap, Faith King of Mount Airy, and Serenity Edwards, Kara Edwards, and Phoebe Edwards, all of Pinnacle; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ann and Will McCraw of Mount Airy and Goldie Seymore of Stanleyville; a sister-in-law, Doris Smith of Mount Airy; many special nieces and nephews; and his beloved canine companion, Rosebud Smith.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.  The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 12, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Kelly Haynes officiating.  Burial will follow in the Unity Church Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
