Dana F Cranouski, age 63 of Woolwine Virginia passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024, surrounded by his two loving children. He was born in Connecticut where he lived most of his life until he pursued his dreams and moved to Woolwine Virginia with his son on a farm surrounded by cows, donkeys, chickens, hay fields, and picturesque views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Dana loved operating heavy equipment, moving dirt, logging, and haying fields. He worked for Balf-Savin with his dad and joined IUOE Local 478 and then continued to operate some of the biggest heavy equipment around over the years and he also started his own business pursuing his dreams in construction, logging, and farming. Dana was a very devoted father and loved his children Meghan and Billy dearly. They were his whole world. He had the biggest heart and was always willing to help others in need. Dana loved his farm where he would sit on the porch in a rocking chair with his black coffee, a pop tart, and his best buddy Troubles as they watched the cows graze, and newborns hop around. He always made sure the cows were happy as they were more than just livestock to him, which made him the happiest until one or two cows snuck out and he sent Troubles to round them back in. One of his favorite cows was one that he and Billy saved during a cold winter night, nurturing her back to life next to the woodstove, which he called his daughter’s cow “Lucky”. There wasn’t a task that Dana couldn’t handle, even the cancer that he had been battling for the past few years could not hold him down. He was a true fighter - strong as an ox and stubborn as a mule. No matter how sick he felt or tired, he never shied away from hard work and helping others. You could find him tinkering around in his shop or in his favorite spot in the seat of heavy equipment.
Dana Cranouski leaves behind his loving daughter Meghan Cranouski of Suffield, Connecticut and loving son William “Billy” Cranouski of Woolwine, Virginia. He also leaves his Best buddy and dog Troubles and his rescue cat Weed and many family and friends who loved him dearly. His memory will be cherished by all who were lucky enough to experience his love, humor, stubbornness, creativity, and strong-willed spirit. Dana will be dearly missed and will live on in the hearts of his family and many friends.
A visitation for Dana will be held at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart on Tuesday September 3, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. A private ceremony will follow with the family.
