Danny Ray Hooker

Mr. Danny Ray Hooker, 78, of Mt. Airy passed away Friday, August 11, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem.  Mr. Hooker was born in Surry County on August 6, 1945,  to the late Johnny “Edd” and Lillian Johnson Hooker.  He retired from Westinghouse and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.  Danny was a simple man who never met a stranger, enjoyed his family, he loved his Lord serving Him as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher for many years. He proudly served his country in the Army and worked hard to provide for his family.  He loved doing the little things in life such as mowing the yard, washing the cars and taking pride in everything he did, but loved his family most of all. Teaching his children and grandchildren setting an example for them to follow, he loved taking the family on vacation, cooking out and helping out wherever he could to make life better for all. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Mayes Hooker; daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and Gerald Hardy, Heather and Terry Wooten; grandchildren, Emma and Olivia Hardy, Elijah and Hannah Wooten; a sister-in-law, Sandra Hooker; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hooker was preceded in death by brothers and sister-in-law, Donald and Noretta Hooker, and Douglas Hooker; a half-brother, Clayton Hooker.  A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Honeycutt officiating.  Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by VFW Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.  The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
