Darren Mark Chambers, 37, of 155 Sheets Park Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Monday night, February 4, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born October 10, 1975, in Surry County, the son of Bonnie Holt Chambers and the late Garry Lee Chambers. Darren was a truck driver at Dude Smith Trucking and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. He was also a member of Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM. He is survived by his mother, Bonnie Holt Chambers of Mount Airy; a sister, Lisa Michelle Chambers of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Kevin Mitchell and Tammy Reece Chambers of Clemmons; a step-niece, Ashley Hayes of Clemmons; a step-nephew, Matt Hayes of Clemmons; his maternal grandmother, Lucille Holt of Mount Airy; his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Chambers of Holly Pond, AL; aunts and uncles, Ann and Ronald Wright and Bobby and Shirley Chambers, all of Holly Pond, AL, Randall Chambers of Huntsville, AL, Pat Jenkins, Carolyn Davis, Terry Holt, Jeff Holt, and Neil Combs, all of Mount Airy, and Donald and Chipper Holt of Allisonia, VA; many special cousins; and his best friend, Bandit. In addition to his father, Darren was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Walter Holt; his paternal grandfather, J.L. Chambers; an uncle, Dennis Holt; special cousins, Micah Scott and Richard Moore; and a great aunt, Marie Knopp. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 8, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Spurlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, with Masonic rites conducted by Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Tina Leonard, for the love and tender care given to Darren during his sickness.
