Mr. David James Beal, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born Christmas Day, 1941, to the late Judge Fate J. Beal and Faye Smith Beal. He grew up in Lenoir, where he graduated from Lenoir High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest College and his Juris Doctor degree from Wake Forest College School of Law. During his life, he served as a Special Agent of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Chief of Police for the City of Mount Airy, Clerk of Superior Court of Surry County, and Vice President of Human Resources at Renfro Corporation. He also served for 20 years as volunteer special assistant to the general managers of the Winston-Salem Spirits and Warthogs baseball teams. He is survived by his wife, Millie Shelton Beal; a son, Mike Beal and his wife, Leigh; two granddaughters, Catherine Beal and Maggie Beal; and a brother, Judge Beverly T. Beal and his wife, Judy, of Lenoir. He is also survived by many, much-loved nieces and nephews, special friends, and neighbors. The Beal family will celebrate his life with a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy.
