Mr. David Glenn Hatcher, 96, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Golden Living Nursing home, formerly known as Surry Community Nursing Home. Mr. Hatcher was married to Marian "Cub" Simmons Hatcher. Mr. Hatcher was born in Carroll County, VA, August 6, 1910, to the late Thomas D. and Cora Ingram Hatcher. Mr. Hatcher worked for 30 years for the North Carolina Department of Transportation as a school bus driver trainer. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Ross Francisco Sunday School Class. Mr. Hatcher is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Terry Hedenskog of Colfax; a son and daughter-in-law, Wade Hampton Hatcher and Heather Hatcher of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Daniel Wade Hatcher, Mary Glen Hatcher, Jessica Lee Hedenskog, and Terry Eldon Hedenskog II; a sister, Virginia H. Gardner of Roanoke, VA; a sister-in-law, Evelyn S. Dark of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hatcher was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas D. and Cora Ingram Hatcher; a sister, Pearl H. Starling; and four brothers, Howell Hatcher, Parker Hatcher, Norris Hatcher, and Wade Hatcher. Mr. Hatcher moved with his family to Mount Airy as a child and spent his life serving the Surry County community he loved, most notably as a charter member of the Franklin Ruritan Club. To many he will always be known as the "mayor" of Toast. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Franklin Ruritan Club, P.O. Box 1, Toast, NC 27049. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 24, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 25 at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, conducted by the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron and Dr. Steve Lindsley.
