Mr. David Roy Key, 72, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Surry County on August 2, 1949, to Geneva Hicks Key Cooke and the late Marvin Cleveland Key, Jr.  Mr. Key retired from Duke Power.  Mr. Key proudly served our country in the United States Army.  He loved to play golf with his Tarheel buddies, and spending time with his family.  He graduated from North Surry High School and played basketball on two State Championship Teams. In addition to his mother, Mr. Key is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tyson Key and Aimee; a grandchild, Hillary Hall and Christopher; a great grandchild, Heidi Hall; a sister and brother-in-law, Deborah Key Matthews and Doug; nieces and nephews, Ashley Shifflett, Phillip Matthews and Alex, Charles Matthews and Elizabeth; several other nieces and nephews.  In addition to his father Mr. Key was preceded in death by a brother, Andy Key.  A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens with the Rev. Raleigh “Dink” Haynes officiating, and full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.  There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home.  Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy is serving the Key family.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to True Vine Baptist Church, 2231 N Andy Griffith Pkwy, Mount Airy, NC 27030.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
