David Paul Simmons

David Paul Simmons went to his eternal home with Jesus January 22, 2021.

There are no words to express how much he will be missed by his family. He was the most loving, gentle, yet strong, humble man of God anyone could ever know.

David was born to Samuel Day and Helen Worrell Simmons on July 23, 1941. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War Conflict in the Army. Upon his return, he worked for his father in the family plumbing business eventually buying the company that became known as Simmons Plumbing.

Besides being a hard working man who wanted to provide for his family, that deep seated love for them was also the driving force in his life.

David loved life and looked forward to each new days adventure. Music, playing guitar and singing brought him such pleasure as did fishing, golf, farming, welding, woodworking, remodeling and restoration, making crafts, carving and traveling to new places. He was extremely talented with his hands and had a great mind for vision.  His most recent passion of love was restoring his 1934 Chevrolet pick-up.

David was an active member in his church, Winston Salem First, in Winston Salem. He eagerly looked forward to being in church worshiping and praising with his brothers and sisters in Christ.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife and soulmate Mary, his three children David, Kim, Chris and his nine precious grandchildren. He held a special love for his sister Mary and brothers Buddy and Stan. He treasured his memories of his brother Bobby and sister Kay who have gone on before him.

His wife Mary's family was a huge part of his life and considered David as their brother, uncle and friend of almost 40 years.

David had numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who he looked forward to seeing at their family gatherings. Each one held a special place in their hearts for their

Uncle David.

Another event David looked forward to was his class reunions. He had such wonderful memories of his classmates from high school years. He especially held a special place in his heart for his childhood friend of 70 plus years, Joe Thomas. The two stayed in touch on a regular basis through all these years.

This Eulogy is a brief snippet, because it would take volumes to contain the wonderful life David had. He would often say; I've had a great life!

That statement is a legacy for all of us to attain.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday January 27, at 2pm in the Moody's Chapel.

Pastor Elwood Rakes, Sr.  will conduct the service.
