David Wayne Turner

Mr. David Wayne Turner, Sr. age 70, of Mount Airy, passed away at his home, Tuesday, September 29, 2020. Mr. Turner was born on July 14, 1950, in Greenville County, South Carolina, to the late James Thomas and Ruth Priscilla Scearce Turner.  Mr. Turner’s passion in life was playing the steel guitar with his brother Joe Turner and his musician friends.  Left to cherish his memories are his daughters and sons-in-law, Julie Hodges and Willie, Marilyn Slate and Bobby; sons and daughter-in-law, David Wayne Turner, Jr. and Tammy, Jesse Michael “Mikey” Turner and special friend, Tammy Pell; grandchildren, David Wayne Turner, III and wife Melissa, Haley Turner Goins and husband Chase, Jaden Nicole Turner, Brittany Slate Pozo and husband Kevin, Bridgette Denise Slate, Katlyn Marie Hodges, Kaymen McDowell Hodges, Ella Konstance Hodges; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Wayne Turner, Melia Grace Turner, Madison Nicole Turner, Isaac David Turner, and baby Slate-Pozo; sisters and brother-in-law, Gayle Hunter and Dean, Donna Edwards; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom Turner, Mike Turner and Astrid, Joe Turner and Brenda, Paul Turner, Joel Turner and Liz; several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Turner was preceded in death by a sister, Nora Elizabeth Turner.  A funeral service will be held at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday October 4, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Sam Holder officiating, with burial will follow at New Life Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  Other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Willie and Julie Hodges at 174 Lure Lane, Mount Airy, North Carolina (Willie’s Fish Lake).  Moody Funeral Services of Mount Airy is serving the family.
