Davis Lee (David) Gates, Sr

Mr. Davis Lee "David" Gates, Sr., 72, of 1026 Jaques Avenue, Rahway, NJ, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at Robert Woods Hospital in Rahway, NJ. He was born May 22, 1934, in Patrick County, VA, to the late John Cable and Eva Pruitt Gates. He was retired from General Motors in Linden, NJ, with 30 years of service. Surviving are a longtime companion, Margaret Keene of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn and Rich Mondragon of Sparta, NJ, and Sandra Gates of New York City, New York; two sons, David S. Gates, Jr. of Ararat, VA, and Dennis Gates, Lantana, FL; five grandchildren, Mark Gates, US Army, Ft. Lewis, WA, Thomas Gates of Lantana, FL, and Michael Mondragon, Julia Mondragon, and Ryan Mondragon, all of New Jersey; and a sister, Inez Higgins of Sparta, NC; a special nephew, Phillip Gates, Linden, NJ; several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gates was preceded in death by four brothers, Stanley Gates, Lewis Gates, Tommy Gates, and Monroe Gates. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Roy Large. Burial will follow in Hunters Chapel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
