Davis Covel "Dink" Mitchell

Mr. Davis Covel “Dink” Mitchell, 68, of Troutman, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Mitchell was born January 12, 1954, in Surry County, one of four children born to Dorothy Davis Mitchell and the late Warren Estel Mitchell.  Dink grew up in the Dobson community and graduated from Surry Central High School in 1972.  He worked as a masonry contractor for many years, retiring as a general superintendent and a business development associate from Gates Construction Company in April 2021.  It was through this trade that he was able to support not only his family but also cultivate many lasting relationships with coworkers and friends.  While his profession afforded him the ability to build many, beautiful projects throughout North Carolina and beyond, he was instrumental in cultivating and building the foundations of many other brick masons who were able to develop their own trades and become entrepreneurs in their own rights.  Mr. Mitchell was a member of Fallstown Baptist Church.  He is survived by his wife, Lisa Doutt Mitchell of the home; his children, Casey and Cindy Mitchell, Landon and Kayla Mitchell, and Kenley and Maggie Mitchell, all of Dobson, Haily and Justin Leone of Mooresville, Hunter Mitchell and Carolina Casin of Winston-Salem, McCrae Norton of Gaffney, SC, and Maddie and Kyle of San Diego, CA; his grandchildren, Alek and Cortni-Morgan Fargis, Colby Mitchell, Zackary Mitchell, Maddox Leone, Lexington “Lexi” Leone, Wade Mitchell, and Rae Hoke; his mother, Dorothy Davis Mitchell of Dobson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandra Martin of Gastonia and Sharon and Ricky Adkins of Yadkinville; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his father, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Mitchell.  A service of worship and celebration of Dink’s life will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Fallstown Baptist Church in Troutman, with Dr. David Troutman officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Fallstown Baptist Church.  Following the services in Troutman, a service of worship and celebration of Dink’s life will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 4:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church in Dobson, with the Rev. Trent Lyons officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church.  The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their prayers, visits, cards, food, words of comfort, and acts of kindness during Dink’s sickness and since his passing.  It means so much that you have expressed your love for Dink in these caring ways.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, Statesville Office, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC  28625.  Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the family.
