Mr. Nelson “Dean” Strickland, 54, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home on Friday, April 30, 2021, surrounded by friends and family. He was born in Surry County on September 25, 1966 to the late Chester Lee Strickland and Ethel Mozelle King Strickland. Dean was a well-known auto mechanic and was the owner of Strickland Auto Repair in Bannertown. He had a passion for four wheeling, camping, auto racing, and life, which he lived to the fullest. He is survived by his son, Landon Strickland and girlfriend Allyni Tate; his girlfriend, Susan Crissman of the home; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Jimmy Rakes; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Judy Strickland; two nieces, one nephew; many cousins; and his racetrack son, Lucas Galyean. A celebration of Dean’s life will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Pine Ridge Fire Department, 1892 Pine Ridge Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Dean was a member of Community Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. The family wishes to thank everyone for their acts of kindness shown to Dean during his illness.
