Deborah Darlene Tolbert

Miss Deborah Darlene Tolbert, 64, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, June 16, 2016, at her home. Miss Tolbert was born September 3, 1951, and was adopted into the Joseph Daniel Tolbert family. Darlene graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1970, Surry Community College in 1972, and Wake Forest University in 1974, earning a Bachelor of Arts in history. Miss Tolbert dedicated 29 years of her life to teaching the children at White Plains Elementary School. She stayed late in the afternoons tutoring students so they could achieve at levels beyond what they could ever expect. Miss Tolbert was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. She is survived by several cousins; many special friends; and her extended family from First Baptist Church. Miss Tolbert was preceded in death by Cora Beola Tolbert, Joseph Daniel Tolbert, and Florence Ayers Tolbert. A graveside service will be held Sunday, June 19, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Kevin Wilson and the Rev. Jay Meadows officiating. No formal visitation will be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Surry County Schools Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 364, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Tolbert family.
