Mrs. Debra Cox Overby, 60 of Claudville, VA, passed away Friday at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. She was born on November 16, 1951 in Patrick County to Ethel Rakes Cox and the late Acie G. Cox. She was a loving wife, caring mother and grandmother, she was a very active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and had worked for over 40 years for Narroflex where she was a sales representative. Debbie was a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was initiated into Stuart Chapter No. 25 in 1973 and immediately became a most active member. In addition to serving on a various committees and being appointed to numerous offices, she served as the Worthy Matron for her chapter and as secretary. She was recognized for her service to this Order by being appointed to various state committees. Serving as assistant lecturer for numerous years, Debbie instructed in ritualistic work. She was furthered honored by being appointed to the state office of Grand Ruth by Worthy Grand Matron Daphene Watson during 1996-1997. When Stuart Chapter merged with Martinsville Chapter No. 66, Debbie remained active and faithful. She served again on various chapter committees and was appointed as the Star Point Adah in the Martinsville Chapter. Her love for the Order of the Eastern never diminished.
Other than her mother, Mrs. Overby is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Marshall Overby of Claudville, a son, Scott W. Overby of Collinsville, VA; two grandchildren, Kailee and Caden Overby; two sisters, Tina Puckett and husband C.W. of Stuart and Sandy Palfreeman and husband Dan of Mt. Airy, NC; nieces and nephews, Scott and Gretchen Lawson of Hillsville, VA, Dave and Amy Reed of Stuart, Katona Puckett of Stuart, Kenan and Kyla Johnson of Mt. Airy, N.C., Katalin Johnson of Mt. Airy, N.C. and a special friend, Lillian White of Virginia.
A memorial service for Mrs. Overby will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday October 1, 2012 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Barry Clement and Pastor Mark George officiating. The Eastern Star funeral ceremony will be conducted by the Martinsville Chapter No.66. Burial will be Private. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
