Delphia Lou Thomas Chapell

Mrs. Delphia Lou “Dale” Thomas Chapell, 78, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday morning, April 9, 2022, at Dunmore Plantation in Dobson.  Mrs. Chapell was born March 13, 1944, in Surry County, one of ten children born to the late George Ellis and Trusty Bryant Thomas.  Dale worked in several hosiery mills in the area for many years, and she later owned and operated Dale’s Socks.  Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 13 years, Richard Maynard Chapell of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Eddie Reece and Pam and Andy Doggett, all of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Jennifer Doggett of Winston-Salem and Justin Doggett of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Raymond Payne of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Nellie Thomas of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chapell was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Venable; two sisters, Nellie Gery and Vivian Lakey; and five brothers, Orvil Thomas, Herman Thomas, Aubrey Thomas, Mac Thomas, and Kenneth Thomas.  The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Ronald Thomas officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Airy Lions Club, c/o Bill Joe Woodruff, Treasurer, 1519 West Fairfield Drive, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
