Mrs. Delsie Gertrude Edwards Wolson, 105, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018. She was the daughter of the late John Eldridge and Laura Ada Holt Edwards. Delsie and her seven siblings grew up on the Edwards farm near Dobson. During the Depression, Delsie moved to Philadelphia and trained as a hairdresser. She met and married Leon Wolson in 1937. When Leon returned after serving in World War II, they started a hair salon and soon moved to Delray Beach, FL, opening Coiffures by Leon and Del. Success in their little home nursery encouraged a love for orchids and with the help of her brother, Ted, who truly wanted them to move closer to home, Delsie and Leon’s dream became a reality. Orchids and Exotics by Del prospered, and almost instantly became a major supplier to the High Point furniture market showrooms and local photography studios. When Leon died in 1987, Delsie moved to Mount Airy, where she bought a house and took care of her mother, Laura Ada, and elderly sister, Vesta Snyder. Delsie loved to travel and visited many countries. Her loving nature and ready smile made her a favorite of her many nieces and nephews. She was a faithful sister to Elsie Vaughn during her long illness. Residents at Ridgecrest, where Delsie spent her last years, remember her with fondness. She will be greatly missed by her family. Left to cherish her memory are a sister, Doris Venella and her husband, Rocco; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Haynes, Elsie Vaughn, and Vesta Snyder; and three brothers, Ted Edwards, Noah Edwards, and Alvin Edwards. A service of worship and celebration of Delsie’s life will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. The family will greet friends before the service at the church, beginning at 10:00 AM. The Edwards family wishes to thank the many caregivers at Ridgecrest for their loving support through the years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the WMU Ruby Wagner Group, c/o Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 27, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is respectfully serving the family.
