Dennis Draughn

Mr. Dennis Wade Draughn, a disabled veteran, passed away at his home, Friday, April 9, 2021.  He was born in Surry County, February 23, 1942, to the late Jacob Spencer and Dinah Handy Draughn.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era.  Mr. Draughn is survived by his wife of 51 years, Opal G. Draughn; a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Lewis Lowe; a stepson David Brian and Jan Lyons; grandchildren, Jesse and Bennie Boyd, Jewel Lowe, James Hill and family, and Justin Hill; step grandchildren, Michael Calhoun and friend Ashley, Josh and Jessica Lyons, Dylan and Amber Moats, and Ethan Moats; step-great-grandchildren, Chase Calhoun, Katie Calhoun, and Julia Lyons; sisters and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Odell Fowler, Lucille Issacs.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughn was predeceased by a daughter Shelly Boyd; a stepdaughter, Debra Shelton, step-great-grandson, Shaun Calhoun, brother David and nephew Brent Draughn.  A special thanks to family and friends and the Mountain Valley Hospice personnel who have been so loving and caring during this difficult time.  A graveside service will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 12, 2021 with Rev. Jeff Wall officiating.  Full military honors will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and the Pilot Mountain Post 9436.  There will not by any formal visitation at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030, or Antioch Baptist Church, 137 Antioch Ave, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.  Moody Funeral Home will be assisting the Draughn Family.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
