Mr. Dennis Wade “Dink” Faw, Sr., 81, of Mount Airy, went to join his son Denny and his other family and friends in Heaven, Saturday afternoon, September 25, 2021, from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. He was born in Surry County on February 2, 1940 to the late Obie Faw and Vera Lucille Midkiff Faw. He proudly served our country in the US Army while being stationed in Germany and he was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Dink was owner and operator of the Tasty Freeze which is now known as Speedy Chef and he had his hands in a lot of other businesses including, KASCO produce, Mayberry Taxi, and the Jerry Lewis Telethon. Dink was retired as a meat cutter from Lowes Foods but had work at various other grocery stores including Food Lion, Guy Caudles (which is now the Galaxy in Bannertown), and the Bannertown Superette. Dink was a member of the Mount Airy Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Ruitan Club of Bannertown and help with Jackson’s Pool for many years and at one time was also a volunteer firefighter for the Four Way and Bannertown Volunteer Fire Departments and was even the Firefighter of the Year in 1976 for the Bannertown Fire Department. Dink was a fun-loving guy who loved old cars, the beach, but most of all, he loved his family. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Hazel Golding Faw, son, Benjamin Scott “Benji” Faw; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Temoney and husband Andy; grandchildren, Justin Scott Faw, John “Cornbread” Hargrave and wife Jennifer, Brandon France, and Megan France; great-grandson, Kendrick Elliott; a special great-granddaughter, Austin Grace; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayton Faw, Doug and Judi Faw, Rev. Bill and Jewel Faw, Nancy Faw, and Judy Faw; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dink was preceded in death by his oldest son, Dennis Wade “Denny” Faw, Jr. from cancer in the winter of 2009; and by three brothers, Benny, Charles, Haywood, and Don Faw. A service of worship and celebration will be held on the morning of Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy with the Reverend Larry Phillips and the Reverend Bill Faw. Burial will follow in the Midkiff Family Cemetery with full military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mt. Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning at Moody Funeral Home from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. The family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to all the family and friends who have reached out to them during Dink’s illness.
