Mr. Dennis Wade Moody Age 87 of 317 Marion St. Mt. Airy widower of Mrs. Rose Tilley Moody passed away Monday night February 19, 2007 at the Salemtowne Retirement Community in Winston Salem, NC. Mr. Moody was born March 28, 1919 in Surry County to the late Wade C. and Anna Fogleman Moody. Mr. Moody was the first president of the Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce; charter member of the Mount Airy Rotary Club; past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2019; charter member of the Veterans Memorial Park board of directors; past president of the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association; founding trustee of the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History; former director of Workmen's Federal Savings and Loan; member of Renfro Masonic Lodge and Surry Shrine Club where he recently received his 60 and 50 year pins respectfully. Mr. Moody was a lifelong member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Airy and was former president of Moody Funeral Services, Inc. of Mount Airy, Dobson, NC and Stuart, Virginia. Mr. Moody was a very proud veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Win Thurber of Point Clear, Alabama, Libby and Ben Goins of Mooresville, NC; One son and daughters-in-law, Bob and Kathy Moody of Mount Airy, NC and Carol Lee Cathey of Charlotte. Fourteen grandchildren, Darren Moody and his wife Andrea, McCord Moody and his wife, Kerry, Tracey Moody, Alexa Cathey, Mary Esther Elliott and her husband, Bart, Winchester Thurber and his wife, Fran, John Wade Thurber and his wife, Rebecca, Ben Goins, Jr. and his wife, Emily, Nicole Childress and her husband, Daryl, Adam Stanfield, Ann Grey Stanfield, Nicole Moody, Meredith Moody, and Wade Moody; Seven great grandchildren, Rose Elliott, Barton Elliott, Elizabeth Elliott, Ella Claire Goins, Ben Goins, III, Audrey Rose Childress, and John Wade Moody. In addition to his wife and parents Mr. Moody was preceded in death by a son Dennis W. Moody, Jr., a granddaughter, Kimberly Moody, two sisters, Mary Lee Goad, and Louise Folger. Mr. Moody lived his life as a great example of the importance of family and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday February 22, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Moody Funeral Chapel in Mount Airy with the service conducted by Dr. Steve Lindsley with burial to follow in the Oakdale Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The Moody Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
