Dennis Morgan Hicks

Dennis Morgan Hicks, 68, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2023 at his home.  He was born May 23, 1955 in Mount Airy, NC, to Jack Morgan Hicks and Gaye East Hicks.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, best friend, and wife Cynthia Hicks.  He is survived by three brothers, David and Marsha Hicks of Franklin, TN, Darrell Hicks of Lewisville, NC, and John Hicks of Hackettstown, NJ; and niece Erin Hicks of New York City and nephew Ian Hicks of Boston, MA.  Dennis enjoyed a forty-plus year career in the transportation industry and was the winner of numerous sales awards.  At the time of his passing, he was employed by PITT OHIO.  He was a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (BA 1977) and a dedicated fan of UNC sports.   Fittingly, the final basketball game he viewed saw his beloved Tar Heels defeat arch-rival Duke University in Cameron Indoor Stadium.  He was also a die-hard Beatle fan and was fortunate to enjoy every Fab Four song, from “Love Me Do” (1962) to “Now and Then” (2023).  Co-workers, friends, and customers remember Dennis as kind and generous, always with a smile and always supportive.  He is remembered by his family as warm and caring.  He was a big brother who always had your number but always had your back.  He will be missed and always lovingly remembered. Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Skyline Memory Gardens, 432 Old Buck Shoals Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The service will be conducted by Rev. Stewart Mauck. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, PO Box 5021, Hagerstown, Maryland 21714-5021.
