Denny Wayne Shumate

Mr. Denny Wayne Shumate, 73, of Mt. Airy passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy.  He was born in Surry County on June 6, 1944 to the late Robert and Tavie Simpson Shumate.  Mr. Shumate was retired from Landform, and was a member of Blues Grove Baptist Church.  He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Eric Bunker of Mt. Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Christine Shumate of Statesville; grandchildren, Madison Tickle, Taylor Tickle, Brayden Bunker, Christopher Shumate, Alexanderia Shumate, Mackenzie Kitts; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Ray Freeman, Sharon and Johnny Caudill all of Dobson; brothers and sister-in-law, Bob and Linda Shumate, James Shumate, Junior Shumate all of Dobson; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Shumate was preceded in death by his wife, Gaynell Dollyhigh Shumate; a brother, Billy Shumate.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel  with the Rev. Sammy Lawson officiating.  Burial will follow in Blues Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday from  2:00 until time for thwe service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
