Mr. Denzel Jay Blackburn, age 86 of Mount Airy, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Village Care of King. Mr. Blackburn was born on November 11, 1937, in Carroll County to the late Sanford and Verna Crotts Blackburn. Mr. Blackburn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Gaye Fleming Blackburn; two daughters, Anita Bowman and John Catron, Shannon Prince and Frank Prince; five grandchildren, Cody Bowman, April Bowman, Ashley Bowman, Morgan Prince, Caitlin Prince; three great-grandchildren, Tayvin Roberson, Declan Bowman, Derek Bowman; two special nieces, Sandra Kay Blackburn, Haven Ann Blackburn; two special nephews, Neil Blackburn, Lavin Puckett; along with several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Blackburn was preceded in death by five sisters, Mabel Blackburn Puckett, Edna Blackburn White, Opal Blackburn Cox, Ora Blackburn, Evelyn Blackburn Sontag; three brothers, Ferrell Blackburn, Roy Blackburn, and Ray Blackburn; along with five half-siblings. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Mr. Lavin Puckett officiating. Interment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Moody Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
