Mrs. Deonna Lynn Wood Hiatt, 19, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, January 12, 2009. Mrs. Hiatt was born May 1, 1989, in Forsyth County. She was a full-time student at Surry Community College and was employed at Wal-Mart. She was a member of Shining Light Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Emilee Jade Hiatt of the home; a son, Michael Troy Hiatt of the home; her parents, Ronald and Diane Hodges Wood of the home; her biological parents, Dean Wood and Debra Sexton; four sisters, Abigail Cave, Chasity Wood, Angela Wood, and Cherokee Sexton; four brothers, Charles Cave, Casey Cave, Kelly Wood, and J.W. Boles and wife, Rhonda; grandmothers, Areta McCormick and Elaine Jones; great-grandmothers, Bertha Hodges and Aileen Hodges; a special cousin, Alexander Moore; a special friend, Sheila Sechrist; several cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and special friends of ROTC. Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by grandparents, John Jones and Tobe Hodges; and great-grandparents, Fred and Sybil Wood and Raleigh Hodges. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 16, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Shining Light Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Elmo Hiatt and the Rev. Claude Lloyd, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Emilee and Michael Hiatt Trust Fund, c/o Wood Forest Bank, 548 C.C. Camp Road, Elkin, NC 28621.
