Derek Scott Ragland

Mr. Derek Scott "Tree" Ragland, 40, of 10 Leonhardt Drive, Cana, VA, passed away Wednesday evening, March 9, 2011, at his home. Mr. Ragland was born May 31, 1970, in Forsyth County, son of George Franklin Ragland and Faye Mundy Ragland. Derek was a self-employed electrician for several years. He is survived by a daughter, Keylee Blair Ragland of Mount Airy; a son, Ellik Scott Ragland of Mount Airy; the mother of his children, Neely Utt Ragland of Mount Airy; his mother, Faye Mundy Ragland of the home; his father, George Franklin Ragland of Walnut Cove; a brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Nikki Ragland of Mount Airy; a special aunt, Colene Jones of Cana, VA; and special friends, Doris and Wayne Gilley of Winston-Salem. The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 13, 2011, at 4:00 PM at Fancy Gap Baptist Church in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist and the Rev. Verlon Combs officiating. Burial will follow in the Cana Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030 to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
