Devan Skyler Upchurch

“Love you…all my heart”. No sweeter or more innocent words were ever spoken out of the mouth of a precious child. These are the words Skyler spoke after every, “I love you”. He was born to Latisha Chaney and David Upchurch on December 11, 1999. Devan “Skyler” Upchurch entered the gates of Heaven, back into the arms of the Heavenly Father, on October 7, 2017. Above all else, Skyler loved his family. He was a loving son, grandson, brother, nephew, and cousin. Unselfish until the end, Sklyer was a hero in life, and a hero in death. His infectious smile and loving heart will live on in all of us who knew and loved him. Albeit in other ways, Skyler will continue to live in others. His final gift of love and kindness will be life to those who never knew him. In addition to his parents, Skyler is survived by a sister, Maggie Upchurch; brothers, Blake and Brayden Upchurch; maternal grandparents, Diana and Jerry Hinson, and Danny Chaney; paternal grandparents, Frances and Ronald Vaughn, Dennis “D.J.” Upchurch, and Tommy Draughn; maternal great grandmother, Wanda McKinney; and MANY aunts, uncles and cousins. For those of us left behind with our memories, cherishing Skyler in our hearts…until we are re-united, “We love you…all our hearts”. Skyler was preceded in death by grandparents, Carol and Jesse Wood; great grandparents, Dennis and Maggie Upchurch; Vestie and Willie Fleming, Raymond and Marie Norman, and James Claude “Buck” Beaver, Jr.: cousins, Alisha Chaney, Kaitlyn Bolin, Brandon Felts and Tanner Felts. A celebration of Skyler’s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Charlie Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in the McCraw Family Cemetery in Cana, VA. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Saturday, October 14, 2017.
