Dewey James Mooney

Mr. Dewey James Mooney, age 82, of State Road, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born November 30, 1942 in Surry County, to the late Jim and Dorothy Mooney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Doug Mooney; his sisters, Pauline Mooney and Annie Lee Chilton; and his brothers, David Mooney and Warren Mooney; and his daughter-in-law, Loretta Mooney.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 62 years, Janie Marsh Mooney; his daughter, Michelle Moody and Kenneth; his son, Chris Mooney; his grandchildren, Whitney Metcalf and her husband, Grant, and Morgan Wilson and her husband, Timothy; great grandchildren, Eli Metcalf, Harper Metcalf, and Bailey Wilson; several nieces and nephews; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Frances and David Johnson; a sister-in-law, Barbara Mooney; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Chilton.

Mr. Mooney was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and member of Fairview Baptist Church. He worked at Chatham Manufacturing for 40 years, and then retired from Visotec Automotive. Visitation will be Monday, December 2, 2024 from 12-2:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Church. A graveside service for Mr. Mooney will begin at 2:00 PM, in the church cemetery with Dr. Billy Nale and Dr. Dan Merritt officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Tommy Edmonds, 7659 NC 268, Dobson NC 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Mooney family.
