Mr. Dewey John Reece, 90, of 1701 Pittman Street, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, August 7, 2011, at his home. Mr. Reece was born May 20, 1921, in Surry County, the son of the late David Lee and Janie Marsh Reece. Dewey retired as a plumber from Shelton Plumbing Company and was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Ruth Coon Reece of the home; two daughters, Carolyn Reece Whitaker and Geraldine Reece Lovill, both of Mount Airy; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry Reece, Jimmy Gray and Lisa Reece, and Eddie Dewey and Tammy Reece, all of Mount Airy; a stepdaughter and her husband, Janice and Paul Hawks of Mount Airy; a stepson, Dennis Greene of Dobson; twelve grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; several great-stepgrandchildren; a sister, Elsie Childress of Dobson; and a brother, Calvin Reece of Conover. In addition to his parents, Mr. Reece was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Mae Reynolds Reece; a stepdaughter, Charlsie Myers; three sisters, Ocie McHone, Ethel Hayes, and Faye Reynolds; and three brothers, Gilmer Reece, Perry Reece, and Joseph Howard "Red" Reece. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at 2:00 PM at White Plains Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Tucker and the Rev. Tom Delph officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family may also be contacted at the home of Janice and Paul Hawks, 163 Forkner Drive, Mount Airy.
