Dewey Lane Sechrist

Mr. Dewey Lane Sechrist, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, June 30, 2011, at Central Continuing Care. Mr. Sechrist was born June 12, 1931, in Surry County, the son of the late Robert Lee and Connie Jane Dawson Sechrist. Dewey was a self-employed handyman. He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Sechrist Cain of Ararat, VA; two sons, Kenneth Dale Sechrist and his fiancée, Velvet Dean, and Roger Lane Sechrist, all of Mount Airy; a special granddaughter, Megan Sechrist; five other grandchildren, Jerry Cain, Jr., Rossie Cain, Timmy Sechrist, Crystal Stanley, and Joshua Sechrist; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Baker, Camryn Stanley, John Griffin Stanley, Gabriel Sechrist, Haven Sechrist, and Alyssa Cain; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Marshall and Linda and Jackie Robertson, all of Mount Airy; two brothers, Bobby Lee Sechrist and Charlie Ray Sechrist, both of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sechrist was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Rose Freeman Sechrist; and a brother, Robert Wayne Sechrist. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 4, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Old Hollow Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. James Easter officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
