Dick Ward Ramey

Mr. Dick W. Ramey, 94, of Lowgap, born into a farming family to Garner and Mamie Ramey on a cold snowy February day.  He often said that the snow was belly deep to their horse.  He spent his younger years farming, logging, and sawmilling.  On April 29, 1945 he married the love of his life, Imogene Norman Ramey.  They spent the next 68 years together raising their family.  He worked many different jobs as a mechanic mainly.  He took pride in his abilities to fix most anything from sewing machines to heavy equipment.  In the mid 70's he opened his own business, “The Long Branch Garage” where he worked on anything that his friends and neighbors brought him until his retirement.  Mr. Ramey went to be with the Lord, his loving wife, and two daughters on August 3, 2020 surrounded by his family.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Ramey was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Imogene Norman Ramey; two infant daughters, brothers, Lindy, and Donald Ramey, Sr.  Mr. Ramey is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Dennis Riggs; grandson, Dickie and wife Kati Riggs; great-grandchildren, Kassidy, and Alek Riggs.  Respecting the current limitations of numbers for public gatherings at this time (COVID-19), a graveside service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Clyde Stewart, and family officiating.  With social distancing in mind, the family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time for the service in the cemetery.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
