Mr. Donald Taylor "Don" Anderson, 69, of Cana, VA, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010, at his home after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Don was born December 2, 1940, in Surry County, to the late Taylor and Josie Overby Anderson. He retired as owner and operator of Virginia-Carolina Produce and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was also an electrician, who worked for Sanders Electric, Pike Electric, and Hunter Electric. Don took pride in his work and enjoyed life. He was an avid race car fan and also enjoyed farming. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sandra Hill Anderson of the home; three daughters, Cynthia Barnes, Renee and David King of Mount Airy, and Paula and Michael Fulk of Lowgap; a son, Donnie and Charman Anderson of Mount Airy; and five grandchildren, Dixie and Delaney Fulk of Lowgap, Wyatt and Bryson Anderson and Lacey King, all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Connie Sue and Glenn Creed. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron and the Rev. David Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 606A East Stuart Drive, Galax, VA 24333 or to Salem United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2591 Wards Gap Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Mount Airy office of Forsyth Piedmont Hematology-Oncology Associates whose staff made life so much easier during a difficult time. The family would also like to thank the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and nurses Penny Bowman and Gerri Aldridge. Thanks also goes to his lifelong friends, David Simmons and Joe Thomas, and his cousins, Larry Overby and Frances Scott, for their love and support and to all his loyal customers.
