“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” 2 Timothy 4:7.
Donald “Gray” Beverly Jr, 65, of Mt. Airy, entered peacefully into the presence of the Lord to receive his heavenly reward on March 14, 2024. His wife, Cindy, held his hand as he entered the gates of Heaven. Gray fought courageously with great faith over the past 17 months, and he never let the cancer define him. He lived every day to its fullest and was always an encouragement to others. Throughout it all, he remained positive and shared his testimony with anyone he encountered. Gray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He was loved by so many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Gray served in the United States Air Force right out of high school. After his military service, Gray worked for more than 40 years in telecommunications in several different states with the last several years in Mt. Airy. He was proud of his job and loved being known as the “telephone man”. He retired from Century Link in 2022 due to his illness.
Gray was of the Christian faith and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Ararat, NC. He loved his church, telling people about Jesus, and helping people. One of his favorite things was riding his motorcycle. Rain or shine, snow or sleet people would comment when they saw him riding his motorcycle to work. He and Cindy spent their spare time taking long trips to the mountains, and the beach. Gray was never a planner, often they would hop on the motorcycle and end up as far away as St. Louis Missouri. Gray was also a proud member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. Gray was known for his love of animals and would often be found with his dogs or tending his cows.
Gray was reunited with his daughter Jessi Cole Beverly; Grandparents Oscar & Loraine Midkiff Patterson and Elmer & Margie Slate Beverly; In-laws Johnny & Geraldene Sawyers.
Gray and Cindy blended their families 22 years ago. There were struggles and differences, but when times got tough, they pulled together and greatly supported each other. Gray is survived by his loving wife Cindy Sawyers Beverly; Parents, Donald Gray Beverly & Mabelene and Donna Patterson Keck & Roger; Children, Morgan Grae Beverly (Josh), Jarred Seal (Marinda), Jonathan Seal, Emily Stevens (Dustin), Ethan Seal (Katie); Grandchildren, Jaxon Poliquin, Sage Poliquin, Isabella Seal, Katie Seal, Evan Seal, Lily Stevens, Sawyer Seal, Sylvie Seal (expected in April). He is also survived by his brothers, Todd Beverly (Kim), Kevin Beverly (Becky), and a sister Terri Beverly; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; Special Pets, Sam and Pearl.
A celebration of life will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 3pm. The family will receive friends 1hr prior to the service. Bro. Josh Sechrist and Bro. Jarred Seal will be officiating the service.
A special thank you goes out to all Mountain Valley Hospice staff, especially his hospice team, Shae Dobson, Ashley Edmonds, Melissa Grimsley, Maria Bedsaul, Amy Poindexter, and Jonathan Casstevens, and to the Novant Cancer Center in Mt. Airy for their loving care and support.
