Donald Ray Edwards

Mr. Donald Ray Edwards, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009, at his home. Mr. Edwards was born February 3, 1936, in Surry County, to Charles Edwards and Myrtle Doss Edwards Gammons. He retired from Pike Electric. Surviving are his wife, Betty McBride Edwards of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Steve Mauck and Jane and Tony Humphries, all of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian Edwards of Winston-Salem and Michael Don and Kim Edwards of King; his stepfather, Ralph Gammons of King; five grandchildren, Philip Mauck of Seattle, WA, Garrett Mauck of Surf City, Brooke Humphries of Cullowhee, and Amber Humphries and Jacob Humphries, both of Mount Airy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lil Edwards of Mount Airy. Mr. Edwards was "Papa" to numerous foster grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Slate. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Lee Boyette officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. There will be no formal visitation. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Surry County Foster Parents Association, P.O. Box 57, Toast, NC 27049, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
