Mr. Donald Ray Hanks, 67, of Elkin, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 5, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, with his loving family by his bedside. He was born in Wilkes County, July 15, 1942, to the late James Clyde and Mildred Bates Hanks. Mr. Hanks was retired from Wolfe Brothers Furniture Company and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Dawn Hanks of West Jefferson; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Johnny Ray and Carla Hanks and Timothy Shane Hanks, all of Elkin, and Jeffery Dean Hanks of North Wilkesboro; six grandchildren, Nathaniel Shane Hanks, Jacob Daniel Hanks, Hannah Ray Hanks, Cole Hanks, Lauren Cockerham, Austin Cockerham, and Daniel Prevette; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and H.C. Mooney, Sylvia and Billy Chappell, and Lillian and Ted Ross; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Millie Hanks. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday July 7, 2010, in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Todd Byrd. Burial will follow in the Grassy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson NC 27017.
