Mr. Donald Hampton Hawks, 58, of Statesville, passed away Saturday morning, April 23, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born January 28, 1953, in Forsyth County, to the late Paul Hampton and Mary Jo Chappell Hawks. He was a veteran of the United States Army and attended Society Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Geneva "Dink" Chappell; his paternal grandparents, Garney and Jessie Hawks; a sister, Jennifer Hawks; and a brother, Tommy Hawks. Surviving are three sons, Michael Paul Hawks, Matthew Gaither Hawks and his wife, See Thao Hawks, and Trent Kyle Hawks, all of Statesville; the mother of his children, Helen Hawks of Union Grove; two grandsons, Christopher Adam and Charles Vaughn; two sisters, Janie Hawks and Lori Hawks, both of Mount Airy; a brother, Reggie Hooker of Troutman; special nieces, Crystal Scott, Lori Rogers, and Tracie Williams; special nephews, Craig Rogers, Darrell Hawks, Aaron Hawks, Zachary Hooker, and Travis Williams; his mother-in-law, Mary Owens of Statesville; sisters-in-law, Diane Warricks and her husband, Rodney, of Statesville and Gay Adams of OlinC. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 29, 2011, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home, with the Rev. Greg Laskowski officiating. The burial of his cremains will follow in the Dobson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson from 1:00 PM until the time of the memorial service. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Surry County Animal Shelter, 172 County Home Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to give a special thanks to all his friends and neighbors for the love and care given to Donald.
