Donald Ray "Don" Hawks

Mr. Donald Ray “Don” Hawks, 82, of Mount Airy, went to be with his Lord and Savior from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home on Saturday evening, October 16, 2021. He was born in Surry County on August 28, 1939, to the late Elbert and Margie Frances Sawyers Hawks. Don was retired from Pic & Pay Shoes after over 40 years of service. He was a member of Shining Light Baptist Church and was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and two sons-in-law, Terri and Lynn Weddle, and Tracy Stone and fiancé Lisa Hobernicht; grandchildren, Zack Weddle and fiancé Cassie Barker, Alisha Nicole and Chris Howard, and Ryan Lee Stone and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Caroline Howard, Isabella Howard, Braelyn Hodges, Anderson Stone, and Everlee Stone; sisters and a brother-in-law, Louise Jones, Wilma Joy Bray, and Kay and Mike Duggins; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wade and Mary Jane Hawks and Wallace and Kathy Hawks; and several nieces and nephews. Don is also survived by his best friend, loving caregiver, and overall buddy, Freta Deatherage. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ester Faye Goins Hawks; a daughter, Sherri Lisa Hawks Stone; and by three brothers, Rev. Gilbert Hawks, Nelson Franklin Hawks, and Thomas Howard Hawks, Sr. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Shining Light Baptist Church with Pastor Elmo Hiatt and Pastor Jonathan Bass officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the church on Thursday. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Hawks family.
