Donald Ray McKinney

Mr. Donald Ray McKinney, 77, of Mt. Airy, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center, Friday, February 3, 2023.  He was born in Surry County, March 1, 1945, to the late Grover and Mabel Carlen McKinney.  Mr. McKinney was a loving husband, brother, and uncle.  He bravely served in the U.S. Army.  He retired from Surry County Sheriff’s Department and later retired from Scenic Ford.  He was a member of Renfro Masonic Lodge #691 AF & AM.  Mr. McKinney enjoyed racing pigeons, raising small birds and Bantam chickens.  Mr. McKinney is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Bonnie Easter McKinney; brothers, Charles and Robert McKinney; sister-in-law, Ruthie Edwards; two nephews, Michael and Jeffrey Edwards, three special great nephews, Taron McKinney, Jude and Isaiah Edwards; and a special friend, Joey Snow.  In addition to his parents, Mr. McKinney was preceded in death by a sister Lois Phillips; and brothers, Eddie, Morton, and Mearl McKinney.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Skyline Memory Gardens.  There will be no formal visitation.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be given to the charity of your choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
