Mr. Donald Eugene Ratcliff, 77, of 149 Sherry Drive, Mount Airy, husband of Patricia "Pat" Jones Ratcliff, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born February 27, 1935, in Pulaski, VA, to the late Coy Everette and Kate Well Pack Ratcliff. He retired from Brown Wooten with 30 plus years of service and worked for T&K Enterprises. Mr. Ratcliff was of the Baptist faith. He was a special father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Patricia "Pat" Jones Ratcliff of the home; a daughter, Alisa Ratcliff Hutson of Mount Airy; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy Ratcliff, Rodney Ratcliff, and Rondale and Susan Flippin Ratcliff, all of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren, Corey Bledsoe, Mandi Hiatt, Brandi Haynes, Jenna Ratcliff, Halee Ratcliff, Emma Ratcliff, Caden Ratcliff, Alexis Ratcliff, and Apple Grace Ratcliff; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy and Grover Davis, Brenda Atkins, and Bonnie Mannon, all of Mount Airy, and Ruth Atkins of Pilot Mountain; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, William Junior Ratcliff and Douglas and Gale Ratcliff, all of Mount Airy, and Nancy Ratcliff of Sparta. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ratcliff was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Dustin Ratcliff, Carrie Bledsoe, and Anthony Ratcliff; a sister, Iris Senter; and a brother, Arnold Ratcliff. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Midway Baptist Church, with the Rev. Butch Holder and the Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Charles Bokesch, Dr. Carol Albright, Dr. Steven Harper, the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, a special nurse, Crystal Peele, a special sister, Bonnie Mannon, and a special sister-in-law, Peggy Rierson, who helped with his daily care. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
