Mr. Paul Arnold Shelton, 90, of King, formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mr. Shelton was born November 2, 1932, in Surry County, the son of the late Ramey and Clennie Rakes Shelton. He retired from the United States Air Force, having served 23 years. Paul was a member and former deacon of Bannertown Baptist Church, where he had also served on other committees. Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn Diann Shelton and Deborah Lynn Shelton; a grandson and his wife, Justin and Jade Smith; three great-grandchildren, Clara Smith, Avery Smith, and Haley Smith; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Parabelle Hiatt, Jean and Harvey Arrington, Betty and Mickey Hall, and Dorothy and Don Baynes; and a brother, Wade Shelton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by his wife, Ethylene Moorefield Shelton; a daughter and son-in-law, Tensie Lee and Phil Gandt; three sisters, Annie Belton, Frances Shelton, and Ruth Mills; and five brothers, Charles Shelton, Russell Shelton, Buddy Shelton, Roy Shelton, and Donald Shelton. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Mickey Cogdill and Mike Hiatt. Entombment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with full military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
