Mr. Donald Ray Shelton, 81, of Mount Airy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday July 2, 2022. He was born June 26, 1941, in Surry County, the son of the late Ramey and Clennie Rakes Shelton. Don was retired from North Carolina Granite Corporation, where he served as the president and CEO, and was on the board of directors for years after his retirement. He was an avid golfer and worldwide traveler, who spent his life caring for and inspiring others. He was a member and served on the board of Mount Airy Wesleyan Church. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Goins Shelton, they spent 46 years doing life together, for better and for worse and shared an amazing love story of caring and giving. Surviving are his children, Son, Marty Shelton (Darrell) and family: Adam Shelton (Jeanie), Kannon; Amanda Snow (Jon), Riley, Gracie; Daughter, Kim Collins (Jeff) and family: Cody Collins, Courtney Collins; Son, Todd Shelton and family: Cory Shelton (Melissa); Daughter, Velvet Cowan (Bill) and family: Korbyn Edwards, Kolte Poore (Kendra), Kylo Godchildren: Jenny Conklin (Jordan) and family: Crews, Tate, Worth, Scout, Gates; Colby Scott (Courtney) and family: Annie Mae, Teddy Grace; Sidney Hunter (Andrew) and family: Olsen, Adler; sisters and brothers-in-law, Parabelle Hiatt, Jean and Harvey Arrington, Betty and Mickey Hall, and Dorothy and Don Baynes; brothers, Wade Shelton and Paul Shelton; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his sisters, Annie Belton, Frances Shelton, and Ruth Mills; and his brothers, Charles Shelton, Russell Shelton, Buddy Shelton, and Roy Shelton. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Mount Airy Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Richard Loman, the Rev. Eric Smith, and the Rev. Cory Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
