Donald Dee Smith

Mr. Donald Dee Smith, 75, of Ararat, VA, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010, at his home. Mr. Smith was born October 4, 1934, in Carroll County, VA, son of the late Carl and Flora Elizabeth Boyd Smith. He retired from Bassett Furniture and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Susie Stillwell Smith of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Kenny Nichols of King; a loving granddaughter, Sierra Elizabeth Nichols of King; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Oscar Combs and Bettie and Turner Watts, all of Mount Airy; seven brothers and two sisters-in-law, James Lee and Frances Smith, Clarence A. and Mamie Smith, and Albert Jack Smith, all of Mount Airy, and William Junior Smith, Hassell Gene Smith, Calvin Gray Smith, and Alvin Ray Smith, all of Cana, VA; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lefty Ogles of Cana, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by three brothers, Milton Carl Smith, Jesse Kyle Smith, and Raleigh Swanson Smith. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Mount Bethel Moravian Church, with Mr. Bruce Ayers and the Rev. Jason Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
