Donald W Speight

Mr. Donald W. Speight, age 89, of King, North Carolina passed away early Monday morning, April 7, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Speight was born in Surry County on September 22, 1935, to the late Paul F. Speight and Mabel Redwine Speight. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he’ll be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mr. Speight was a high school graduate of Mount Airy High in 1954, served his country in the US Army, and had a long career as a Contractor. Mr. Speight is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Fran Speight of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Marty Speight and Tim Zierden of Marietta, Georgia; son, John Speight of Charlotte; grandchildren, Avery Speight and Paris, Abigale Speight, Hayes Zierden, William Zierden; great grandchild, Liam Speight; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Hill and Charles; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest Speight and Bernice, Mitchell Speight and Faith; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Speight was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Hugh Speight and Melba. A celebration of Mr. Speight’s life will be held Friday, April 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in King, North Carolina with the Rev. Ken Evans officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Their will be a private burial at Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Mountain Valley Hospice PO Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody’s of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Speight family.
