Donald Stevenson Whitaker

Mr. Donald Stevenson Whitaker, 64, of 537-B Merritt Street, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Whitaker was born October 14, 1944, in Surry County, to the late Woodrow Wilson and Jane Phillips Whitaker. He retired from Bassett Furniture and was a member of Living Water Baptist Church. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Mary Roberts of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Lynn Whitaker of Lowgap; five stepgrandchildren and a spouse, Jennifer Roberts, Sidney Roberts, and Bobby Ladd, all of Mount Airy, Becky Raxter of King, and Jennifer and Scott Stevenson of Dobson; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Helen Whitaker of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by his wife, Ava Burkehart Whitaker; and a brother, Adrian Whitaker. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 28, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Ritchie Haynes and the Rev. Benny Faw, and burial will follow in the New Beginnings Baptist Church Cemetery in Ararat, NC. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home.
