Donald Rayburn Wright, Sr.

Mr. Donald Rayburn Wright, Sr., 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, September 19, 2021, at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Wright was born July 25, 1934, in Surry County, the youngest of seven children born to the late Grover Cleveland and Roxie Wenora Ashburn Wright. Rayburn retired as the vice president of finance at Perry Manufacturing after many years of service and was a faithful member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Bowman Wright of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Michael Hosig of Blacksburg, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Glenna Wright of Winston-Salem; ten grandchildren, Nicholas Hosig, Rachel Hosig, Zachary Hosig, Christopher Hosig, Cathleen Hosig, Celena Hosig, Caleb Wright and his fiancée, Ashley Kramer, Micah Wright, Abrah Wright, and Asher Wright; a sister, Loudene Wright Riggs of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister-in-law, Betty Johnson Wright of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wright was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Alease and R.C. Lambert, Barbara Wright Holcomb, and Paul Riggs; and three brothers and a sister-in-law, Staff Sgt. Dale David Wright, Cletis Goodwin and Helen Wright, and Curtis Hylton Wright. A service of worship and celebration of Rayburn’s life will be held Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Kevin Minix officiating. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 27, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
