Donald Matthew York

Mr. Donald Matthew York, age 79, of Elkin, NC passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021, in Rowan County at the W.G. Bill Hefner Medical Center. He was born in Surry County on March 26, 1942, to the late Willie Frank York and the late Margaret Empress Stanley York. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Franklin York; sisters, Layor York and Forrest Lewis; brothers Willie Gale York and James Clark “JC” York. He was a member at Union Cross Baptist Church, was retired from Sara Lee Hosiery, and a veteran of the US Army having served in Vietnam. Surviving is his wife, Shirley Conner York; son Matthew York; grandchildren, Tiffani York and Dakota and his wife Leah York; sisters, Mary Cave, Louie Shumate, Lois Snow; brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Norma York; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 28, 2021, in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Union Cross Baptist Church Cemetery with full Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. Brother Dallas Snow, and Pastor Allen Horton will officiate the services. His body will lie in State 30 Min prior to his funeral service. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the York family.
