Donna Marie Laster

Mrs. Donna Marie Laster, 75, of State Road, passed away Friday, November 6, 2020 at Priddy Manor Assisted Living in King.  She was born in Surry County on October 15, 1945 to the late Edward and Ossie Atkins Coalson.  She was an active member with Zephyr Ruritan Club, and faithful member of Gum Orchard Baptist  Church as long as her health permitted.  Mrs. Laster was an excellent gardener, known for her green thumb, and love for plants.  She was a wonderful cook, making “the best coconut cream pies, and pound cakes”.  She loved Butter Pecan ice cream, Diet Mountain Dew, and watermelon.  After retiring from Perry Manufacturing with 39 years of service, Mrs. Laster became a volunteer at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson where she felt she was able to help others as she had been, during the time of her husband’s illness.  Mrs. Laster was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  Left to cherish her memories, are her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and David Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Kristin Laster; grandchildren, Olivia Smith and Lillie Smith; step grandson, Henry Alen Bushong; sisters, JoAnn Bryant, Mary Faye Ramey, and Teresa Crouse; brothers and sisters-in-law, and Dale and Sara Coalson, Jay and Frances Coalson, a brother-in-law, Leonard Brooks; several nieces and nephews in addition to a special niece, Amy Coalson; and best friends, Adale White, and Linda Martin.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Laster was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Dale Laster; a sister, Vickie Brooks; and a brother, Edward Coalson.  Due to health concerns at this time, a private graveside service will be held at Gum Orchard Baptist Church Cemetery.  Anyone is welcome to pay their respect  to Mrs. Laster at Moody-Davis in Dobson Monday, November 9, 2020 from 10:00 AM  until 12:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017 or to Gum Orchard Baptist Church, c/o Charles Durham, 152, Poplar Springs Rd., Elkin, NC 28621.   Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
